When I was dreaming about the canvas for baby girl’s room, I wanted to be sure that the the floors and the walls of the room were a beautiful first layer.
Here is the nursery BEFORE, in its former life as a school room {check out the walls and floors}.
The floors and architecture in this room are special already, thanks to the amazing workmanship of the historic homes built in the days of the 1820’s. Our floors are restored antique pines that are original to the home, and the windows have original moulding and are 2 feet deep. Even with all of that architectural detail, I still wanted to add more interest and dimension to the walls themselves.
Here is the design board for my nursery. You can see that I am really wanting to glam and global and girlie up this space!
Enter the joy of ditto-ing another designer’s brilliance:
When I saw the gorgeous nursery of Christine‘s new babe, I knew immediately: moulding is the answer! A simple way to add architectural extravagance.

The moment I saw this space, I knew I had to ditto that wall moulding.
AND, of course, add a few girly architectural touches of my own!

Now. Here is what the room looked like last week {via Instagram}. The pic makes things look better than in real life, paint-wise. In this snapshot, the old wall color is on the walls and the mouldings simply have primer on them:
My original plan was to paint the moulding and the walls the same color – a rich cream, while leaving the crown, windows and floorboard in a paler ivory. But, after seeing the contrast of the white moulding against the walls, I started dreaming of contrasting picture frame moulding.

I love the molding and that nursery looks so darling!
Benjamin Moore White Dove- all of our ceilings, doors, cabinetry, and all of the trim has gotten (and is getting- not done yet!) it.
I love the new moulding!! But all that cutting in to be done….yikes…even though I like to paint…that. would. not. be. fun!!
Regarding white. We made a quick state-to-state move. With something like 36 hours between our arrival and the moving truck’s arrival we went to church, picked up paint, and painted our great room and family room. Yeah. I know. Anyway…the color choice revolved around this sofa I don’t like…but looks horrible if the white’s not right. We identified BM Prairie to be the white. And it looks good. But…when I do little photo shots…it looks green…and green doesn’t look good in my photos. Arrrgh!!!! And really I never saw the green. Maybe I am blind to the nuance.

Love the molding! What really caught my eye were those window shades…Did you buy them like that (all wavy with trim) or did you DIY plain old roller shades?? I’d like something like that in my guest room as a room darkener behind white linen curtains. Can’t wait to see the nursery progress…

Yes, WHITE IS HARD! Just started work on my family room, and it’s looking a little cooler in person than it did on the sample. Livable though. Can’t wait to hear your tips – and see the list!

BM Dove Wing- it is ‘related’ to White Dove and Seapearl. It has just a bit more depth than White Dove and SW Alabaster. I can’t believe it doesn’t get more attention.
Our large entry hall, living room, and kitchen/breakfast area are painted BM Dove Wing Aura, and the trim is SW Alabaster oil based satin finish. Elegant and fresh, but looks timeless.
So FUN! What a good idea some lucky person will be very happy. And btw these iemgas are BEAUTIFUL! Kudos to these parents for making the decision to use custom photography to capture these precious memories. I see so many families trying to save some money by having a hobbyist do their pictures, but as a Nanna myself I know what a mistake that is. Nothing will be worth more than these iemgas years from now, and choosing quality will be well worth it.
