introducing :: living with beauty
Friday, August 24, 2012 by {darlene}

I am taking a chance today. And, as always, I hope you love it.

Today, I am going to start a new category of posts that share a completely different side of me and my passions – not just my passion for decor, but my overall passion for “living with beauty,” and what that means to me.

From time to time, here on Fieldstone Hill, I will be sharing some “Living with Beauty” posts that cover the following:

Fashion

Whole Food Recipes

Makeup

and

Taking care of ourselves

Basically, these posts will be born out of what I actually do in my own life, and the approach to beautiful living that I try to walk daily.

And like everything else on this blog, there will always be elements of both the practical AND the glamorous.

I have no desire to change the overall feel of Fieldstone Hill Design. This is an interiors and style blog, and that will not change. That is the vision I have for this here humble blog, so interiors and style it shall remain.

But the fact of the matter is, there is much more to life than interior design.  There is so much more to STYLE than interior design. And there is much more to ME than design. I have a desire to be authentic in this corner of the blogosphere, and I am excited about sharing other areas of my life with you, even if it is in snippets.

I think that “Living with Beauty” really means:

living intentionally,
living by design,
living with vision,
living with healthy choices,
and living with an awareness of our place in this world.

Living with Beauty

  I am excited to get started. How about you??

Pin-spiration :: gold and gild.
Thursday, August 23, 2012 by {darlene}

I love gold.

Gold and Gild. and Gilt. and Gilded. and so forth.

And I have been gilding things lately.

So, I hereby dedicate this post to one of the most amazing visual delights to ever grace the eyes: Gold!

Truly. Is there anything more glamorous than gold?

What do these images inspire you to add to your home? Or your wardrobe? Or your neckline?

Where could you add a bit of “gold and gild” to your life??

Inspired to :: find my inner sophia loren
Wednesday, August 22, 2012 by {darlene}

{ *** update *** A reader let me know, quite graciously, that the gorgeous gal below is not actually Sophia Loren. Instead, it is Guess model, Line Gost, photographed for Guess by Marciano by none other than Bryan Adams (yes. THAT Bryan Adams). Sophia Loren was the muse. How amazing is that?  Now I have even more hope that I could look like Sophia….. }

Inspired To:

my inner sophia loren

Inspired To :: Love my Italian heritage even more. Remember that comfort and glamour DO go hand-in-hand. Wear black eyeliner and mascara. Have beautiful brows. Go barefoot. Wear big, full, round curls. Dress up, but never forget, that it is all about the face and eyes. Remind myself often of Sophia’s words: “Nothing makes a woman more beautiful than the belief that she is beautiful.” Believe it. Find my inner Sophia Loren.

So. What does this picture inspire you to do……

What are you Inspired To?

ditto :: a glamorous office
Monday, August 20, 2012 by {darlene}

ditto monday image

This glamorous office is a high-dollar look. But with a keen eye, and careful study of the space, you can bring some of these {or all} fantastic elements into your own home using more creativity than dollars. Today’s ditto is an office/dining space by Miles Redd, and it is definitely a gorgeous dose of high-gloss glamour. Wouldn’t you love to create and design and work and dream in this space?

The list below will break down for you many of the decorating concepts that are employed in this great space. As with all of our dittos, let’s study what makes this space SO AMAZING, so that we can learn how to add more beauty to OUR homes!!!

{And, as always, I look forward to hearing from you and finding out what you would ditto, too. So, be thinking!}

a glamorous office

{design by Miles Redd}

DITTO :: {WHAT I WOULD STEAL FROM THIS SPACE}:

1.    DARK, LACQUERED BOOKSHELVES.

Dark and dramatic. Especially amazing when lacquered. Soooo, if you want a glamorous office too, go for it! Ditto!

2.   AN ANTIQUE TABLE FOR A DESK.

Why settle for a simple desk, when you can spread out on an antique table? Of course, the detailed carving really makes this table fantastic, but any beautiful antique table would add class and usefulness to an office. Ditto!!

3.  DUAL DESK CHAIRS.

I love the concept of two chairs at a desk that juts out into the room {like this one, that has always been one of my favorites}. It is perfect for conferencing, and it is such an elegant use of space. I also love the beautiful symmetry it creates. And, practically speaking, it is useful for offering a seat during client meetings, or to have a great place to chat with/work in tandem with a loved one.

4.  ART. SIMPLE.

A square canvas. A white base. A brick red stripe across the top. Leaning up against the bookshelves. It is simple. It is ditto-able. Ditto-DIY-worthy, maybe even?

5.   HERRINGBONE PATTERNED WOOD FLOORS.

Didn’t I have this in my last ditto? Guess I love them! I DO love them!

6. BEAUTIFULLY FILLED BOOKSHELVES.

These shelves are a great example of beautifully filled bookshelves; like I talked all about in this post about Bookshelf StylingDitto!!

7. THAT SPIKEY URCHIN.

See that awesome black urchin on the second shelf down on the left? I would SO ditto that by using this tutorial.

8. THOSE CHAIRS.

Easily ditto-able using these chairs in the right finish and fabric.

9. FURNISHINGS THAT “BREATHE”.

I really believe in furniture with open legs because they allow the eye to travel further across the room and they allow the space to “breathe.” This is a preference that I tend to bring into my eDesigns, because I believe it adds life to a space. When they eye and the light and the air can travel through your space, everything feels lighter than air.

* * * * * * *

SO much goodness.

Love anything I did not mention? or…

WHAT WOULD YOU DITTO {STEAL} FROM THIS SPACE, 1-9? SOMETHING ELSE?

I LOVE HEARING YOUR THOUGHTS!
