ditto | a room I love :: sophisticated gray dining room
Monday, October 1, 2012 by {darlene}

I have had my eye on this sophisticated gray dining room for a while, and I am eager to tell you what I love and what I would ditto. But, I have never been able to identify the designer of this space, despite thorough searching. If any of you have more details on the space below, I would love to know more!!

Also, I am moving my “Room I love series” to Mondays as a part of my ditto post family, with some weeks being full “dittos,” some being “ditto-worthy designer” posts, and some being “room I love” posts. These “Room I love” posts are very similar to my dittos, but they offer a quick list of ditto-worthy features.

This is a great exercise for you as you continue to develop your own personal style: using your own favorite pictures, and making a quick list of what you actually love about the space. If you study what you love about a space, it helps you to bring what you LOVE into your own home!

Enjoy this stunning dining room, and the quick “ditto” list of why I love it.

So. Do you love it?:

I had lunch with Candace Cameron Bure.
Tuesday, September 25, 2012 by {darlene}

Last week, hubby and I were in Palm Springs, CA for business {a great trip, btw. GORG pics of the desert soon to come}, and I am so thrilled I had the opportunity to have lunch with Candace Cameron Bure while I was there!

You, know….. D.J. Tanner!!??

 Of course you do! {that vest just brings me right back….}

That was then. This is now. The stunning Candace Cameron Bure:

“Actress, producer, New York Times’ bestselling author and inspirational speaker, Candace Cameron Bure is both outspoken and passionate about her family and faith. Known to millions worldwide from her role as “D.J. Tanner” on the iconic family sitcom “Full House,” Candace continues to flourish in the entertainment industry as role model to women of all ages.” – from Candace’s “About” page.

Many of you know that I am a part of Candace’s Contributor Team for her  Roo Magazine, where I contribute a monthly article about adding beauty to your homes.

If you have not connected with this eMagazine, you really must. It is a fantastic collaboration of all things that make a home a home, and a family a family. It is an online center for brilliant advice from some of the most amazing women I know. And it is a place where you can be motivated by Candace Cameron Bure herself, to live a life centered around the things that truly matter.

{Join us there on Facebook and on Twitter as well.}

So. Back to my lunch!

When I found out we would be near L.A., I took a chance and got in touch with Candace.

What I expected? ….A super-kind “I am so sorry, but it just won’t work out.”

What actually happened? ….I discovered a truly humble, down-to-earth woman – with a very busy schedule who was willing to carve time out of her day to meet with one of her RooMag girls!! … and we did the typical back-and-forth of two moms/wives trying to squeeze in the impossible task of meeting for lunch.

She squeezed me into her light schedule, between the Emmys and the Full House 25th Reunion. True story.

And we did, indeed meet. And our lunch was wonderful. We may or may not have cruised the mall a bit as well.

{now. look below at those cute shoes, people.   …. No. not mine.}

Here, I find myself asking…. “if I were reading this post what would I want to know about having a lunch with a Hollywood star?”

To be honest, I did not feel too compelled to ask Candace much about her life as an actress, or anything about Full House days, or about the wild and news-worthy Olsen twins. Instead, I felt very much the same way I felt when I met so many of my RooMag girlfriends. I was filled with joy to meet an intelligent, beautiful, successful, kind, generous, witty, and lovely woman of God. Because of her national attention, it is true, I was even more deeply impressed by her humility and candor. But aside from that, I saw a beautiful spirit that I simply delight to call friend. One who holds her head high and has a deep confidence…

but none of those attributes come from Hollywood.

It seems to me that Hollywood is simply a magnifying mirror. If you have insecurities, they would be amplified. If you have a mean spirit, that would be amplified. If you have a heart for others, that would be amplified. If you have a joy and a steady confidence, that would be amplified.

Meeting Candace was like meeting a breath of fresh air in the smog of L.A. I mean really… how often do you hear that a child Hollywood star has grown to be a strong, beautiful, happily married, mother of 3, thriving in LA with a smile on her face and a joy in her heart???

Something may just be different about this lady?

Can you guess what it is???
