ditto | a room i love :: a Madrid beauty

Today’s ditto | a room I love post features the living room of a stunning Madrid renovation.

{Ditto | Room I Love posts demonstrate a great exercise for you as you continue to develop your own personal style: using your own favorite pictures, and making a quick list of what you actually love about the space. If you study what you love about a space, it helps you to bring what you LOVE into your own home!}

Can you feel the warm and colorful Spanish Madrid flair in this gutsy space?

This is a room I love. Do you love it?:

WHAT I LOVE {What I would ditto!}:

1. The colors. So vibrant, but balanced so well with large chunks of whites, blacks, and golds.

2. The bold, geometric, navy and white rug.

3. Navy and Berry!

4. Books and books. Sorted by color. Love a bookshelf filled with …. BOOKS! {lesson in design: how to style a bookshelf}

5. Contrast Piping!! Makes me happy.

6. Two, smaller, matching coffee tables instead of one large one.

7. Huge art in a simple frame as the sole decor over a large sofa.

8. The addition of subtle pattern in the flowing drapes. {lesson in design: why use drapes}

9. The two-zone floor plan of this extra long living room. The space has essentially been divided into two different living rooms, each with a slightly different feel. And yet, the decor and colors work well together.

10. Live flowers and plants, of course!

And just in case I did not profess my love for this color scheme enough, did you happen to see the little Instagram snapshot of mine of the fabrics I am using in upcoming Living Room changes at Fieldstone Hill. See any similarities????:

the hunt for BHG Edie Wadsworth pics {I need your help!}

The Hunt for BHG Edie Wadsworth Pics

Hey dearests!

Guess what I saw on Pinterest the other day??

Edie’s Kitchen!

BHG Edie Wadsworth

{via BHG.com}

and Edie’s Living Room!

BHG Edie Wadsworth

{via BHG.com}

I know. I know. I have a zillion pics of these spaces.

But not professional ones!! The pics above are the images taken by Beall and Thomas, and featured in the Better Homes and Gardens Magazine January 2013 issue.

And I happened upon them because my friend Jessica posted them onto the BHG Blogger Faves Pinboard. How did you find them, Jessica??

Of course, like any sensible person, I spent the next hour hunting ALL over BHG for more images from Edie’s space, like her Master Bedroom, her girls’ room, and other vignette photos that come from her home and the BHG article.

No luck so far.

So this is where I need your help. If you ever see any more of the professional pics of Edie’s space, either on Pinterest {from BHG.com} or on BHG.com directly… will you let me know? THANK YOU!!!

Don’t professional shots make all the difference???

{I don’t know about you, but this gives me hope. It helps me to remember that even real homes look like magazine homes when the lighting is in a state of perfection! and all the crap-ola is swept off to the side!}

project library {and new school room} :: the sketch ups

Project Library { new school room }

Thanks for all of your great encouragement regarding our School Room Project!

One of the ‘burdens’ of having all these grandiose decorating thoughts in your head is that you wish you could always be starting up a new major project in your own home. And, like most of you, our household budget is much more “down to earth,” than “pie in the sky.”

But, every once in a while, it is time to start a new project, and I am giddy to have you along for the ride as we attempt to churn out an amazing School Room /Multi-purpose Library!

So.

After many days of studying my fave book about renovating and building small spaces, I handed our contractor, {who happens to be a super kind friend of ours, Hi Samuel!}, this little sketch up of our desired floor plan:

School room

And he came back to me with these mock ups of the room, which certainly got me all-sorts-of excited:

All of the furnishings will come from our existing stock pile {i.e. randoms floating around somewhere in our house}, including a flat screen that is so old, it may actually be the first one ever invented. It is actually 10 years old, true story.

Hmmm. now:

lighting? brown couch or blue? art? carpeting choices? paint colors? texture? reorganizing all of our crap-ola?

Y’all. This is going to be fun!!!!

So, come on!! What do you think? Ideas? Love?

AND…

Last but not least, since this post is so completely devoid of color, I leave with you with one more inspiration pic for this School Room, {from my Pinboard, Inspiration Rugs}. Oh, How I would LOVE to find an affordable option to a rug like THIS! #OnAMission:

ditto :: project library / our new school room {befores + dittos}

Project Library {the School Room}

{first things first: thank you all so much for your sweet comments on my latest design board last week! All of your thoughts are so appreciated!}

* * *

Well, It has been a long time since I have heard the exciting bang of a hammer and whir of a drill in our home…

and I am excited to tell you about the newest renovation project going on at Fieldstone Hill:

A new School Room.

or  we could call it a Library Multi Purpose Room, which sounds much more sophisticated!

Floor plan and sketch-ups are soon to come, but today, I wanted to share with you the Room Before Pics, and also, the inspiration images that I am going to be using and ditto -ing.

We do love our current school room, but we have some new things in-the-works for that room {deets coming soon. promise!}, and we have long wanted to finish up the great “L” shaped room in our basement.

Enjoy these greatly disheveled Befores of our unfinished basement room, which show remnants of the room’s glory days as the boys’ Play-Room-Destructo-War-Zone-Space. Alas, I will miss having a space like that… the kind where I can happily send my kiddos off to burn their boy energy with nary a care in the world. The kind where you can simply shut the door and mutter, “Whew, am I ever glad that space is unfinished!”

Befores

I know you didn’t miss that quick glance at my amazing sofa. Because you are slick and stylish like that.

Here she is. And if you follow me on Instagram, you know the story of how I got her for F-REEEE!

{Not sure yet if this beauty is going in this room, or in our Living Room. Although… I haven’t shared those ponderings with my husband yet…. Maybe I should do that, hmmm? Either way, this girl is ALL Hollywood and comfort, and I adore her. And this room will have a sofa either way, tucked in a happy little nook.}

* * *

So, on to some Ditto Thoughts.

I have been gathering ideas from my favorite renovation book, and diving into my huge collection of decor inspiration boards Pinterest, of course, for all sorts of ideas.  So, now, I have a collection of images just for this space, and I am excited to pull the ideas all together. Here is what I am thinking:

DITTO :: {WHAT I WOULD STEAL FROM THIS SPACE}:

Ditto -ing: the overall feel of these pics:

Ditto -ing: bookshelf and sofa-nook inspiration from these pics:

Ditto -ing: A seagrass or soft-jute rug, wall-to-wall:

Ditto -ing: One big table of “Little House Like” School Days {one can dream, right?}:

school room

Ditto ing: the Portrait Lamps at the top of the library shelving:

Ditto -ing: the calm feel, large table, and basket-filled nooks in this space:

It is going to be a great School Room! And I am particularly excited to have a lot of bookshelves {with storage cabinets on the bottom} and a new large closet to store ALL OF THE STUFF that comes with having an actual school in your home.
The truth is… it’s the the books. So many books….

So excited you are coming along with me on this space renovation! What is your favorite inspiration pic?

If you have any amazing inspiration pics you would recommend, or want to send my way, I would totally appreciate that!! You could always leave a link to a Pin in the comments {readers, take note: you will probably find some great new peeps to follow on Pinterest!!}. Thanks!
