When it is no longer the holidays and still not quite spring, it is hard to figure out what kinds of special touches to add to the home. I think that March is the perfect time to add some spunk to your decor. These quirky lion and lamb pieces will add a touch of animal fun based on the famous adage about this month. I’ve picked both faux and nonfaux items, as it is great to have choices that will suit a variety of discerning consumers.

Thank you for shopping via the links on Fieldstone Hill. It keeps this working girl sharing all of her design inspiration with you, and I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart! For more lion and lamb inspiration, hop on over to my latest Guest Picks post at Houzz!

Hope everyone’s March is off to a great start! I am really looking forward to the “out like a lamb” part of March!

ditto :: How to decide with dittos {your favorite spaces}

How to decide with dittos

Last week, I had to decide my bookshelf color so that my contractor could order the doors with the correct primer color. I wrote a little post -y post about it.  And thank you so much to everyone who chimed in about my decision for our School Room / Library! Aren’t I a lucky gal to have the most stylish readers to pick their brains on decorating questions?

You see, I could have made my decision based on practicalities, such as what color shows fingerprints the least, etc…

But I didn’t.

Now don’t get me wrong. I am a BIG believer in making practical decorating decisions.

But guess what trumps practicality?

Decorating with what you love.

I needed a reminder. What do I love? Because it can get confusing with all of the info and inspiration that is out there, right?

So, I had a brilliant idea. “You know all those posts you write every Monday, Darlene? You know. The ones where you pick a room you love and write about what you would ditto? Well. Why don’t you check those out and see what kind of bookshelves you find??”

Well, Shock and Awe. Take a look-sie at what I found:

Clearly this is a look I love.

And oh. What is that nonsense I am always blabbing about over here at Fieldstone Hill?:

Decorate with what you LOVE!

And golly gee. That is what I am going to do. Deep gray/navy bookshelves it is. I will keep you posted on my specific color choice options!

So, How to decide with Dittos?

  1. Make sure you have access to a collection of images; images of rooms you really truly love {that is what I am calling “dittos”}. You can read more about how to collect these images here.
  2. Then, once you have a decision to make for your home, refer back to these dittos. Remind yourself of what you love.
  3. Trust yourself, and GO FOR IT!

What decorating decisions do you need to make?

Would a collection of favorite ditto-worthy posts be helpful?

project library :: dark cabinets ?
Thursday, February 28, 2013 by {darlene}

Hmmm…. dark cabinets ….

So our new school room is going to have a LOT of cabinetry, and my original vision for the room {see the floor plan and sketch renditions here} was to paint all of the cabinetry in French Ivory {a Sherwin Williams color from the former Martha Stewart line, you can still get it mixed}.

This is the same color that we have on our trim and cabinetry throughout our farmhouse. It keeps things bright and cohesive in an old home that has evolved over the years.

Here are several pics throughout our home featuring the French Ivory trim:

So, my plan for the cabinets was to paint them in this beautiful ivory, and paint the backs of them in a fantastic dark color {yet to be determined}.

But…

Lately I have been dreaming of THIS:

{via Loft and Cottage}

{via birch and lily}

{via poppy talk}

This new school room is going to be in a walkout basement with plenty of light. It is western and southern facing, and while the before shots show a very dark room, there will soon be a full glass door on the back wall that faces west. The small room has also been filled with a variety of light sources.

I would love your vote! French Ivory vs. Gray Navy?
