Huge Summer Memories Giveaway {+ tips on memory preserving}
Monday, July 22, 2013 by {darlene}

Capturing memories, per say, does not seem to be the hard part for me these days. I always seem to have a phone handy, or a camera for the capturing… and then there is the awesomeness of Instagram, and the share-ability of Facebook for the sharing of treasured memories with your device-savvy relatives. But, I have to admit. I really really fall short in the Preserving of memories in my home. You know: Actually hanging photos on my walls. Taking the time to make photo books. Placing special images in special frames in special places. Oh, I am simply terrible at that. The fact is, we all know that the Nester is right: we have only 18 Summers with these precious ones. The most important thing is to actually UNPLUG a bit, tune into the here and now, and enjoy those memories AS we are making them. And, truly, it is also important to take the time to preserve these special times. To bring them into our homes as treasures, photo books,  and photos in art form – hung beautifully on the walls to enjoy daily.

This past week, our family lost a friend to cancer. And I will never forget: before AND after the cancer, she made sure her house was CHOCK full of pictures. It was clear, when you stepped into her home, what her life was all about. What mattered to her. You could see a life well lived. You could see a life well loved.   It has made an impression on me. on my heart. And I actually need to do something about it, or my lack of memory-preserving will not change.

My Steps to Memory Preserving:

1. Gather a collection of lovely frames, books, etc. 2. SET aside a chunk of time, SET on the calendar and 3. Find a partner in crime: a friend who is up for the challenge; to bring her own family memories and her own projects, so we can be in this together.

Time flies by. I am thinking it is high time I steal some of that time for being still, and start preserving the memories that are so precious to me.   Want to join me in this? Oh yeah. I just happen to have the perfect motivation! Did I mention a HUGE Summer Memories Giveaway? I am so excited to tell you that #1 on my must-do-list above will be taken care of for three of YOU, in a BIG HUGE way. Now, I can’t help you with the “making the time” part – or the “finding a partner in crime” part, other than by saying “I will do it if you do it!!”. But you could run away with some seriously cool goodies that are designed JUST to help you preserve your precious memories.

Bébé bébé bébé Nursery

Bebe bebe bebe nursery series

{preggers update: In the final countdown. 7 weeks left!}

Thursdays is the day for the Bébé bébé bébé Nursery series here at FHD: featuring Girl Nurseries designed by some of the most gifted designers and creative decor bloggers from around the web. {Need some boy nursery awesomeness? Check out Bijou and Boheme‘s Baby Baby Baby Nursery series.}

Today’s designer is Jenna Burger of SAS Interiors. Jenna and I have only “met” online, but it is very easy to see that she is a super talented, super energetic, down-to-earth gal with a BIG love for helping others improve their homes. She has a gift for breaking design down into do-able projects, and for encouraging you along the way. If you don’t keep up with Jenna, you really should! You will not leave her place without a good dose of inspiration.

Magical. Organic. Delicate. Whimsical. Pure. Colorful.

All words that describe my vision for a baby girl’s room.

I’m Jenna, Interior Designer and Blogger of SAS Interiors where I design, create, and inspire through do-it-yourself projects, decorating tips, and interior design inspiration.  I am over the moon that Darlene asked me to participate in this exciting series to share my ideas and vision for creating a room for her new precious treasure-to-be.  I have a baby girl (well she’s actually not a baby anymore but instead a boisterous toddler) so I know the thrill of designing a space that is simply perfect. {see my daughter’s current Big Girl Bedroom}

As with any space I design, I start with one bam inspirational element.  Whether it be a wall covering, fabric, or simple accessory, that one element sets the tone for everything else.  When thinking about the magical room that I would create for Darlene’s little gem, I landed on this beautiful murano glass turquoise chandelier.  It spoke to me with it’s classic, yet modern aesthetic. Around this special handblown glass statement piece, the nursery design came together with colors of blush (for softness), fuschia (for a pop of color), and gold (a girl can’t be without gold), along with touches of turquoise and whites.

A sophisticated masterpiece was created.  Perfect for a little girl to come home to.

This is such a fun, lively and beautiful nursery! I have SEVERAL favorite elements that I think are so dreamy. That pouf is to-die-for!! I want it in the WORST sort of way! I can just picture baby girl climbing happily all over it. And….The lamps are killer.  And that mobile! I just love how it pulls every element of the room together. Perfection! And what little girl would not love to grow up with that dresser??

Thank you SO much, Jenna, for crafting such a fantastic space. You rock at finding unique and beautiful pieces.

I am having so much fun with this series. What fun to be planning a nursery in a time when the choices are endless, gorgeous and flexible!  My girl’s design board may be done already, but the GORGEOUS ideas just keep coming! Thank you to all you amazing gals for such great designs.

Be sure to leave some comment love here for Jenna, sharing your thoughts on this beautifully designed space!

What elements from this design would you use in your own home??

project nursery :: pretty room details

Pretty Room Details

pretty room details

{My baby girl’s design board. See this post for even more details and sources}

The nursery is *Almost* finished! In fact, the only things left to do are add doorknobs to the new closet and frame/hang a few more pieces of art. And if I have not drained our bank account, I am still on the hunt for a great little side table, since I think this one will end up in the living room – permanently! And, Serena and Lily, you TOTALLY should just send me that pendant lamp…

I thought you would enjoy a few more sources and some fun notes about some of the pretty room details:

{some affiliate links included. Thank you, awesome readers, for your FHD love}

pretty room details The fuchsia Vietnamese handmade baskets were a total score on the clearance rack at T.J.Maxx. $5.50 each! The fabric milk crate baskets are from Lowes, and they look gorgeous en masse in the nursery cubbies. These baskets house burp cloths, bibs, hats, bows, and cute little baby shoes. Did you catch that?…. bows??!!! Squeal.

Grabbed this pretty little pillowcase number on sale. Red and Fuchsia and a nod to the classic bandana, for $19… sold!

pretty room details

One of my favorite pretty room details in this space is the drapery fabric. The drapes come from Les Indiennes, and they are hand block-printed in India, on pure cotton. They are even more gorgeous in person and they MAKE the room.

This sweet Moses basket makes me so happy. It is teensy enough to make me ooh and ahh, and large enough to make my hubby say, “so, I guess I am sleeping on the floor?”

pretty room details

Is there anything more timeless and cheerful than gingham? I just had to have some in this space, hence these fabulous crib sheets.

pretty room details

The showstopper in this room is definitely my lounge chair from InStyle Modern. My friend Sheila had little sit-sy in it the other night and was ready to snag one of her own. It truly is comfy! Plus, I love that this beauty is going to be a classic in our home for years to come. The pretty crib blanket hails from here.

Details make the difference, and they are adding up to make a beautiful space.

It has been so much fun pulling this space together from Vision Design Board inception, through construction details, and layering with these pretty room details!

Have you considered consulting with a designer to make your space stunning?

living with beauty :: a balanced mobile {on shifting focus}

A Balanced Mobile

Hello dears!

How I have missed hanging out here with you. But I am guessing your summer is full of good and busy things, as is mine.

If you tried to get on Fieldstone Hill Design blog over the last 3 days, you will have discovered that it vanished, thanks to my web server {grrrrrr.}. Finally, thanks to my amazing Heather, all is well again. So two whole weeks without a Monday ditto?? That is a record for me.

But maybe not for long.

I can feel, with every fiber of my being, that I am going to have to start making room for baby. Time-wise, Mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Once, a friend told me that a family is like a hanging mobile.

And when you add a new family member to the mobile, the delicate balance is disrupted for a while – whether it is a permanent house guest, an ill parent, an adoption, a baby, a foster child, etc.

But with a little bit of time, the mobile does adjust, and your family finds its balance again.

balanced mobile

{mobile can be found here. This is the mobile inspiration for my Baby Girl’s Nursery Design Board}

My mobile is tipping.

I am due with baby girl in 7 weeks. SEVEN!!! My heart’s desire is to wrap up my client projects, prepare my home, launder baby clothes, set up a diapering system {I will be doing cloth for part of my diapering, when we are not out and about}, and begin homeschooling so that I can take a solid 6 week maternity leave. Our family focus is changing as we lovingly prepare to welcome a new “mobile-member.”

Here at the blog, I won’t be going anywhere. You are stuck with me {wink}. I will still be sharing my tips and passion for design.

But what I mean to do, and what I can actually get done…. well, those are two different things! For example, I meant to have a nursery update for you this morning. Instead, I slept for 12 hours last night. True story.

And, I imagine that the not-getting-things-done bit won’t change for a while.

Or at least until our mobile finds its balance again.

{hoping to have a nursery update for you tomorrow! hoping. For now: off to ed-u-ma-cate my two precious boys and get some serious snuggle time and a HUGE bowl of yogurt}

Missing you! Hop over to the comments and give me your thoughts on the family mobile, balanced mobile or unbalanced or both!
