Bebe bebe bebe nursery series

{preggers update: ONE WEEK!!! gulp. I am due in less than a week!! Did you read the little letter I wrote to my baby girl??}

Thursdays is the day for the Bébé bébé bébé Nursery series here at FHD: featuring Girl Nurseries designed by some of the most gifted designers and creative decor bloggers from around the web. {Need some boy nursery awesomeness? Check out Bijou and Boheme‘s Baby Baby Baby Nursery series.}

Today’s designer is Ashley from the Handmade Home. I met Ashley two years ago at the Haven Conference, and immediately, we loved each other’s silly, sassy sense of humor. Instant friends when you can laugh together, no? Well, in any case. Not only is she funny. She is insanely talented, and extremely skilled at creating a beautiful home. You really have to hop over to her blog, and check out her amazing, do-able DIY’s {I have Pinned several to my DIY’s Worth Doing board, and you probably have too!!}. Also, you must check out her book! And without further ado, please welcome Ashley of the Handmade Home to FHD! I know you will love her nursery design.

Hello lovelies! We are truly thrilled to be at Fieldstone Hill today, sharing one of our very favorite subjects – children’s spaces! We couldn’t be more excited for our sweet friend Darlene and her family – especially with her new addition on the way! So we wanted to share some of our selections for a fun little space.

The key to anything for a baby is keeping it both functional, and fun. So we decided to go off the beaten path a bit with some colors that we really love for a truly unexpected vibe to a baby girls’ space. They can definitely grow with her! We would pair these fun finds with some crisp white walls. Organic and geometric shapes, punches of magenta + purple with kelly greens + deep aquas. This space also has plenty of storage and function. Oh, and that oh-so-essental hit of gold. So without further ado… a jewel toned glam baby space.

I just love it! Definitely the stand-out factor is all of the amazing color and pattern mixing! Jewel toned heaven!!! That would make any girl happy, no?? Bring on the jewels. My favorite elements are the gold crib {of course!!}, the awesome Ikat fabric, the stunning emerald dresser, the colorful art, and that killer chandy!

Thank you so much, Ashley! I love this vibrant, jewel-toned gorgeousness! Thank you for spoiling my baby girl with your skills!!!!

She’s on my mind
Tuesday, August 27, 2013 by {darlene}

You are on my mind, sweet baby girl.

What will you look like, sweet one? Who will you be?

on my mind

One thing is for sure. You will join a family of 4 stubborn, happy, close, determined, silly and God-loving Weirs. Four who anxiously await your arrival.

FH family snuggles-web laughing-web {family photos taken by the uber talented Amy Renea of A Nest for all Seasons. Blast that girl for having pretty much the same due date as me. Her camera and my baby have GOT to meet each other!}

* * *

Today marks one week to my “due date” and the predictions are in for your arrival date, but I actually like that I don’t know when you will arrive on the scene. In a world where we ruin all of our  own surprises, I love that this is one that God keeps.

I love that He alone knows what you will be like. And it will be a secret for us to discover.

I do know this: you are already loved.

That, dear one, I know.

Add Architecture to your Walls

White, crisp walls are certainly appealing. But I must admit, I find that the look is much more suited to magazines than to real life.

The solution? Add some architecture to your walls, so that there is texture to create interest on a vast white surface. Crown moulding, elaborate moulding, paneling, or even DIY paneling: all of these are excellent solutions for adding rich texture to the gorgeous simplicity of a white wall.

You can have your white wall and love it too!

Check out the collection of images below for some BEAUTIFUL ways to add architectural texture to your walls:

This concept was the approach I used for my grand, bare white wall in our brand new library. And while the images are less sophisticated than the ones above {mostly because of my photography weaknesses!}, I can assure you that this room is beautiful, and that the bare white wall is very interesting architecturally. No big, vast white expanse in there!

I also used this concept in my nursery, and it added SUCH dreaminess to the room. Every time I see the rich crown moulding and the picture frame moulding, I think of a Paris apartment. Perfect for a girly glamorous nursery.

Which one of these walls would you ditto??

What added architecture would be gorgeous in your home?

Bébé bébé bébé Nursery :: Emily A Clark

Bébé bébé bébé Nursery

Bebe bebe bebe nursery series

{preggers update: 2 weeks until my due date. So basically, my bags are packed, people! For the very rare preggo picture updates, follow me on Instagram}

Thursdays is the day for the Bébé bébé bébé Nursery series here at FHD: featuring Girl Nurseries designed by some of the most gifted designers and creative decor bloggers from around the web. {Need some boy nursery awesomeness? Check out Bijou and Boheme‘s Baby Baby Baby Nursery series.}

Today’s designer is the truly-kind and ever-stunning Emily A Clark, author of the Emily A Clark Blog, and design guru extraordaire. I have always loved Emily’s style. In fact, I have even ditto-ed one of her beautiful spaces. I love that her design aesthetic combines glam and practicality, as well as do-ability. I have not yet met Emily {we were supposed to do a panel together at Haven this summer, but sigh, I had to get all big and pregnant!}, but I just know our paths will cross soon and I can’t wait. If you are not following her blog, I know you will just love her posts and tips! Head over for some gorgeousness! And now, I am so excited to share with you what Emily has dreamed up for my Bébé! Please make her feel welcome here at FHD!

After having five babies, you would think I’d have designed my share of nurseries.  But, my only real effort was with our first back in 2004, and my tastes have changed—a lot—since then.  By the time babies number four and five came along, there was no time (or space!) to even think about designing a real nursery.

So, when Darlene asked me to participate in her anything-goes nursery series, I was excited about the opportunity to dream up a space for baby that could easily convert into an older kid’s room or guest room down the road.  I love a mix of playful and pretty, with plenty of storage for diapers, clothes, blankets and everything else.

Thanks to Darlene for letting me do a little nursery scheming and dreaming.  Best wishes with your new bundle of joy!

I love nurseries that don’t ‘dumb down’ for babies, and this is certainly a gorgeous space that would be just at home in a family room. You have heard me say it before: I love good design for children that GROWS with them, and Emily strikes gold in this department. Such a classy space!

My favorite features? I am in LOVE LOVE LOVE with that fun, but sophisticated, wallpaper from Thibaut. Greige walls make me happy because they really set the stage for rich decor. And time after time, I am drawn to black and white stripes set off by brass or gold accents – I knew I loved you, Emily! An armoire for a baby room… what a brilliant idea! And with my baby girl’s closet – already overflowing – I could use all the storage I can get!! Is it always this way with girls? I am used to being the only one around here who has to steal closet space from the boys…

Thank you so much, Emily! I love this livable, growable, and classy nursery design!
