Today’s designer is the lovely Carrie of Making Lemonade. I have been blessed to not only meet Carrie, but also to have her here at my home {and she brought me the most amazing hostess gift of vintage brass candlesticks}. She is SUCH a thoughtful, warm and gifted girl, and I am thankful to call her friend. The contradiction when designing a nursery is that you’re pouring your heart into designing for someone you haven’t even met. A very special, wonderful, beautiful little someone, that is– and yet, you can only guess who that person will become. Which makes it all the more fascinating! You’re making your mark by designing for who you hope they will be, guessing at what they’ll love, and leaving room to watch them grow. Such a personal and special room to create!
When my daughter was born, things did not go well with the delivery. She was in the hospital for two months, leaving me to venture into her empty nursery one day and look around at what I’d designed. It was sweet… and soft… and lovely. My daughter embodied all those things, but she was also incredibly strong, vibrant, and glowing with charm despite the tubes and wires. See? I designed the room for who I thought she’d be– and it turns out, I was off. Within a year, I’d redesigned it with bolder colors to match our daughter’s spirit.
Every once in awhile I like to indulge my inner designer, so huge thanks to Darlene for allowing me to share the nursery that should have been. Sweet for my pink-loving girl, and sassy for the fighting spirit that kept her alive. As an avid reader, she needs room for books so the x-framed bookcase gives plenty of space for storage. Black and white patterns are supposed to help with brain development, so the rug is a perfect spot to include it. Lots of organic elements for my nature loving girl– gold tones, woven basket pendant light, the blossom mirror and a feather curtain tie-back. Touch of Greek Key on the bottom of the gold lamp, a nod to our Greek heritage. A mix of high-end items with inexpensive pieces allows the room and furniture to grow from baby to child to the teenage years. Plus, an accent wall with Lantern wallpaper keeps it fun (and it’s a more sophisticated nod to her favorite movie, Tangled). Here’s my sweet and sassy and bold nursery for girly girls with panache, the nursery that should have been!

What fun to be planning a nursery in a time when the choices are endless, gorgeous and flexible! My girl’s design board may be done already {nursery reveal in due time! no pun intended.
