Today’s is the last post in the Bébé bébé bébé Nursery series.

I sincerely hope you were inspired to add a good dose of girl-y to your home!

Thursdays is the day for the Bébé bébé bébé Nursery series here at FHD: featuring Girl Nurseries designed by some of the most gifted designers and creative decor bloggers from around the web. {Need some boy nursery awesomeness? Check out Bijou and Boheme‘s Baby Baby Baby Nursery series.}

Today’s final and talented Bébé designer is my friend Lori May of Lori May Interiors. I am so glad to know Lori! She is such a sweet soul, and I am thrilled we have had a chance to hang out together. I look forward to getting to laugh with her again at our next design/blog gathering. And I know you will love her too! It is not hard to see her genuine spirit and her love for family shine through in her designs and her writing. Hop over to Lori May Interiors and check out her blog and her design work. And, I am excited to share this sweet eDesign that she created for my 3 week old {almost one-month old. Mommy DENIAL!} Georgia Luisa!

Hi everyone,

I am so happy to be with you today. And, I am excited to welcome Darlene’s sweet baby girl to the world!

I have had the absolute pleasure of spending time with Darlene on two separate occasions. From the first time we met, I knew that I had encountered a kindred spirit. She is kind, so very thoughtful and wonderfully creative. When I think of her baby girl, I think of her as an artist. One who takes the kindness and creativity of her mother and paints from her heart.

One of my favorite artists is Holly Irwin. Holly paints the most beautiful paintings, but her little girls always speak to me. The painting in my design plan is called “Our Time”. I have read many of Darlene’s posts about her sweet girl. “Our Time” to me represents the life ahead for the two of them. It will be full of joys and hopefully very few difficult times. But, no matter what, it will be full of love.

Thank you, Lori May! You are such an angel. What stuck out to me most of all in this design was the fresh green color. The Schumacher fabrics are stunning, {I LOVE grass green and navy together}! I love how that same scheme is subtly carried out on the glider. I am a such sucker for handwoven African baskets, for hampers and trash receptacles or toy storage… how have I not gotten one for my Georgia Lu!? But, my favorite? That amazing mother/daughter art! It makes me weepy just glancing at it. And then there are the sweet words from Lori May…. oh my! Thanks again, sweet friend!

Oh, I had so much fun with this series. So sad to see it come to end. You will definitely want to check out all of the amazing designs to be endlessly inspired.Thank you to all you amazing gals for such great designs.

BTW, My girl’s design board helped me create a gorgeous space for my girl! I am just putting some finishing touches on her room before I share it here.

Be sure to leave some comment love here for Lori May, sharing your thoughts on this beautifully designed space!

And do share!! What elements from this design would you use in your own home??

I hope you loved this series. Wasn’t it awesome to do some serious, girly-room dreaming??

BHG… again!
Tuesday, October 1, 2013 by {darlene}

I am super excited to share some fun news with you today… I am trying not to squeal too much… trying to play it cool…

I am going to be featured in Better Homes and Gardens November 2013 issue, sharing insider designer tips on styling bookshelves!! {mini squeeeeal!} I am thrilled to partner with BHG again, and extra thrilled to chat about the intricacies of creating a beautiful bookshelf.

Especially since I have quite a few shelves I will need to decorate in the coming year or so…

The issue should hit the newsstands mid October, so keep your eyes peeled in the check-out aisle. Tell your kids to stop playing with the candy and look for the latest BHG. {The people who decided candy should be kid-level in the check-out aisle… now those people are just evil…}

And, more giddy news!

Not only do I get to grace the print pages of BHG, but I am so thrilled to be hanging out on their blog today, sharing additional bookshelf styling tips.

So, would you consider doing this girl a big favor?

Head on over to the BHG blog and give me some comment and sharing love?? {Is that shameless? So sorry. Just blame it on the new-baby hormones, or definitely, blame it on the lack of sleep}.

I am forever indebted to all of you, my FHD cheerleaders – who happen to know how to rock some serious style and spread the love!

I heart you.

ditto | a room I love :: an idea packed corner
Monday, September 30, 2013 by {darlene}

Today’s ditto | a room I love post features an idea packed corner that has made its way around blogland. But most people have been focusing on the fabulous fiddle fig in the corner. Meanwhile, this small glance of a room’s corner offers tons of great design ideas, packing quite a decorating punch!

{Ditto | Room I Love posts demonstrate a great exercise for you as you continue to develop your own personal style: using your own favorite pictures, and making a quick list of what you actually love about the space. If you study what you love about a space, it helps you to bring what you LOVE into your own home!}

Enjoy this Idea Packed Corner, and the quick “ditto” list of why I love it.

So. Do you love it?:

{ via ditto worthy }

WHAT I LOVE {What I would ditto!}:

1. The hutch: painted white and backed with mirrors, topped with library lighting, and filled with horizontal books. Brilliant!

2. The room is painted a crisp white, and filled with architectural detail moulding added to the walls.

3. That coffee table!! Good thing Kristin showed me how to ditto one of my own!

4. The display of antique trophies above the hutch, giving height and impact when collected en masse.

5. The GORGEOUS antique rug! {here’s a collection of some of my fave rugs}

6. The greek key, skirted table. Love how this table is white like the rest of the room, but because of the thick fabric, texture is added to the room.

7. That antique chair. Say… could it possibly be recovered in Vegan Leather????

8. The piles of gorgeous design and style books.

9. A bunch of pink flowers on the coffee table. This always MAKES a room.

10. And yes. The fiddle fig plant. They are so gorgeous. Even if they are impossible to find and keep alive.

DO YOU LOVE IT?? WHAT DO YOU LOVE? WHAT DESIGN ELEMENTS WOULD YOU DITTO IN YOUR OWN HOME? DO TELL!!!!!!

before and after :: glam up our dining chairs
Friday, September 27, 2013 by {darlene}

A few weeks ago, I posted about my ugly duckling table and chairs, and how you can learn to work with the “ugly ducklings” in your home while they must remain there.

Working with your ugly ducks? A super important skill, I might add! Most of us don’t have the cash flow to change every “ugly duckling” over night; and who wants to live in decorating misery? All a part of overcoming decorating paralysis with success.

Well, we finally saved up enough money to have our chairs reupholstered {oh, how I wish I had any desire to DIY. Reupholstering is so pricey!}. And it was a good thing. Small children were regularly falling out of the back of my brilliant Craigslist scores:

 I knew I wanted to head more toward this sort of look:

So picking out a fabric…

I would have LOVED to use the real-deal leather. Leather is actually a super practical choice, especially if you go with a leather that has a bit of gloss like in the pic of Brooke Shield’s NYC apartment, above.

But for me, it was still too cost prohibitive. Mostly because if my kiddo’s got a pen-mark, or something devastating on them, I could not afford to reupholster. I needed to pick something that will survive a nuclear holocaust – or kids. Also, this is our only dining table/kitchen table, so I needed practical AND glam. Back to my old love of Farmhouse Simplicity vs. High Gloss Glamour. Knowing that someday I WILL get my dream farmhouse table, a la Little House on the Prairie style, I knew I needed to contrast it with some fun and intentional GLAM!!

So I went with pleather. Oh, yeah, baby. {by the way, what is up with calling things “Vegan Leather?”  lately?? I hope none of you are being duped by this!! The stuff is plastic-leather, affectionately known by the masses as PLEATHER. Please do not purchase a super expensive bag that is marketed as Vegan Leather. Don’t they know that is an Oxymoron??}

Back to my pleather. I chose a gold faux leather with a supple feel and a bit of sheen from here. Love this site because they allow you to get some free samples to get you started. I may or may not have made my husband get an account so I could order even more free samples. I picked out this Antique Gold:

So, here are the finished chairs. Which I ADORE!

{They wipe clean, my friends. They wipe clean.}

It was so nice to get these done before baby {ah. the miraculous motivation of nesting}.  Now for the albatross that is my dining table. Someday! And in the meantime, I am THRILLED that my kiddos can still color, and get crafty with their food products… all at the family table.
