Welcome to the July {ditto} DIY challenge!

I hope you loved last month’s challenge! There were some A.MAZ.ING and talented -and simple!- projects that I hope you had a chance to hop around and check out. SUCH Gold goodness!

Today kicks off the grand link-up for July {found at the end of this post}. Do you have your fabric art gorgeousness ready?

For those of you who are just encountering {ditto} DIY for the first time, here is what it is all about: Once a month ten very different bloggers are hosting this challenge to recreate in our own homes a project or design element inspired by a haute couture design. The idea is to inspire everyone to incorporate fine design elements into your own home in a way that fits your own style.

But first! Now that you have some beautiful, framed fabric in your homes – and a designer art influence – here are some designer tips for incorporating fabric art into your space in classy ways!

 incorporating fabric art into your home:

1. One of the designer secrets for adding impactful art to a space is using repetition, en masse. Use several art pieces, all the same size, or with all the same frame, in large groupings. This multiplies the impact of your individual art pieces. It is also a fantastic way to have large, grand art … on a budget! I love using a set of 6-8 pieces of art, in matted gold frames {all the same size} and hanging them together as a focal point: Like this.

2. Large art makes a huge impact. And, it is the designer ideal. However, it leaves a huge dent in the pocketbook. So, an amazing solution is framing large, beautiful fabric pieces {especially ones you already have!}, and highlighting them on a large focal wall.

3. Do you have any treasured family heirloom fabric that sits, unappreciated and unnoticed, in a closet? Framing these pieces, and displaying them in a featured spot is a gorgeous solution for your fabric heirloom AND your goal of adding gorgeous art to your home.

4. Any fabric is fair game! Try shadow-box framing a treasured item of clothing. How about a set of four favorite, square designer scarves? Feature them on the same wall! I have a large, embroidered scarf that is in the queue to be framed and featured in our living room. I can’t wait to share this treasured item and enjoy it every day.

Add a classy pattern to a trash receptacle.

Designer Thoughts:

For obvious reasons, trash cans are an afterthought in our homes. But details make a difference! If you peek into the homes of the finest designers – into their offices especially – you can find beautiful trash receptacles that bring a simple touch of design to this utilitarian piece. I  recommend going with a bold, geometric pattern {although anything is fair game. Design for what you love!}. This type of pattern works well in a variety of rooms and spaces, and a geometric pattern is also great on the surface of a small item {like a small trash can}. Lets have some fun this month and create a gorgeous trash receptacle that we don’t have to hide under the desk!

Get creative and remember that the small details make a huge impact in your home’s decor.
