The Fieldstone Hill Historic Home Tour
The Living Room
Thanks for joining me in another room of the Fieldstone Hill Historic Home Tour!
Come on in to the most well-loved and well-used room in our home: The Living Room!
* * *
This deep entry used to be a window well, but now serves as a passage, ushering you into our living room. This living space looks out over our woods, and it is a peaceful, light and happy space:
The sofa is the centerpiece of our space. The kids love that 11 tiny kid tushies can fit on this baby, all at the same time. Yes, they measured. Using the accurate butt-measuring system. {Vintage sofa from Jayson Home}:
The stone wall is the original back wall of our house. The built-in bar was our original back door {you can still see the threshold}:
This is what the back wall used to look like. See the covered porch area? That attached to the former back wall of our house:
My desk has a gorgeous view of the deck and the backyard. The art is by yours truly. That little doorway leads to the guest suite:
Here is a closer view of the bar. I have a water bar set up on our antique serving buffet. I am thinking of painting the mirror to match the bar… this house could use all the brightening up it can get. It is very wood and stone heavy in general:
We got our hand-hewn beams from a local torn-down barn. The ultimate in up-cycling. The doors above the fireplace conceal our television. The doors and closet you see on the right are also on the left. The right hand closet is our media cabinet {and half a zillion toys} and the one on the left contains my “cloffice”:
See that large, lovely blank spot on the wall?:
Well, this family heirloom is going to be framed and hung in that space. I cannot wait! The shawl used to belong to my Great-Grandmother:
On the future wish list for our living room:
curtains
art
{are you noticing a theme? All of my house is missing curtains and art. Essential, but they are last bc I want them to be realllllly GOOD and I do NOT want to skimp.}
a fabulous chair for my desk
bench cushions for the window seats
Lighting by the orange chairs
Get the sofa recovered. It is in its original vintage silk {from 1958. yep} and some lovely holes are getting bigger by the day. It probably doesn’t help that my boys put their toes DIRECTLY into the holes and play with them….
Thank you for touring with me!!

Thanks for sharing your living room. It’s such a nice large room. I love your sofa! I’m so glad that you’re waiting to do the curtains or draperies when you can do them well. They’ll add so much to your room!
Love this room. That sofa is just amazing!! I love all the thoughtful details, and how you’re taking your time to create a home that reflects you. Would love to hear more about the art you created!
Love your beautiful home and that sofa is a stunner…holes and all! Our house is half furnished too because I don’t want to settle. However, I ended up getting a silver bedside chest for one of our guest bedrooms, and a sofa table at Home Goods this weekend. But those aren’t big pieces that would be a big mistake if I didn’t wait for just the right piece.
I may need your help with the rest of our house…especially rugs and window coverings and upholstery fabric for some pieces and bookcase styling, and….!!! I can’t seem to pull it all together by myself, particularly fabric coordinatio

You are saving art for last. I tend to pick art first and then want to build a room around the art. Is that wrong? I’m not a professional, so I’m sure I definitely get it wrong! Just a huge fan of interior design and wish I had studied that when I was younger. I was a singer too.
Seriously friend, I am in love with some many things in this beautiful space. That couch was the find of the century, I mean REALLY!!!!! I have also never seen your desk before and it is just the loveliest little thing. The sconces against that wall color and not to mention that amazing shawl you are going to put on the wall. What a beautiful treasure that is. Ok…I could go on and on but I should just stop now.
your home is so beautiful, i just love all the little details. i’m wanting to repaint my formal dining room, what color is your living room? im swooning over that color!
[…] The boys dubbed this “The Big Room,” and the name stuck. This is where we spend our relaxing hours: In a new-old room, filled with new construction and old beams and an old mantle. For more on this space, and for additional pics, head to this post. […]
You have a nice big living room, Darlene, I like it’s wooden design on the roof
