Today’s ditto | a room I love* post features one of my favorite kind of rooms: Small but savvy! This small library is filled with brilliant ideas and snuggle-inducing choices. I love to see when a room makes the most of every inch and feels fabulous. Let’s break down what makes it SO awesome, so we can ditto a space like this in our own homes.
*{Ditto | Room I Love posts demonstrate a great exercise for you as you continue to develop your own personal style: using your own favorite pictures, and making a quick list of what you actually love about the space. If you study what you love about a space, it helps you to bring what you LOVE into your own home!}
This is a room I love. Do you love it?:

WHAT I LOVE {What I would ditto!}:
1. A light at the end of the tunnel. Much can be said of a narrow space if it does not feel hemmed in. The window at the end of this space is just the ticket.
2. Built-ins, of course! I am a total sucker for built-ins {have an ENTIRE Pinterest board devoted to my built-in love, in case you need a few zillion ideas}, and I happen to be all about built-in bookshelves at the moment!
3. Simple, comfy seating for two. With a place to put up your feet! In my home, I would want these two chairs to snuggle up to each other a little more…
4. This room centers around the fireplace. Which is ever so enticing for book reading!
5. The gorgeous “destination desk” at the end of the room.
6. The geometric play with black and whites in the rug and the curtains. And NOT the same pattern.
7. Speaking of black and white, I love thee, you cute and large penguin painting!
8. Lighting above the bookshelves – a definite YES.
9. The concept of ottomans is brilliant in this space, because it allows seating to be pulled right up to the fire!

Darlene,
When I first looked at this room I found it very cozy, with great flow, and a classic style. Then I looked a bit closer and realized that my office / den / “puppy condo” {where he stays when we’re not home} is already a danish-modern ditto {or pretty darn close} of this room! Nice to know my instincts for how to layout our room were good 🙂 We have the same traffic pattern with two open-walkway entrances in the same place as the pic. No fireplace but in that location an alcove where we have a super large armoire that stores a smaller TV and all the other household “ugly” technologies such as routers, printers, etc. My two chairs are in the exact location but are red leather danish-modern Ekornes charis with ottomans. No full wall bookcase but between the chairs is a 3/4 height bookcase with a single sliding “barn” door. Ditto the small destination desk in exactly the same location. Wall to wall patterned drapes behind desk creating a “faux wallpaper” element and concealing two puny windows that used to throw off the whole balance of the room. We’re not done in this room but your example gives me some motivation to get back on it! Robin
This room is so lovely. I’d love to park it in one of the chairs with a good book and a cup of tea. The only thing I’d change is the penguin painting.
Dream room! The only thing I would change is in place of the desk, I would put a chair for sitting in a puddle of sunshine or watching the rain…..and maybe the paint treatment of the bookcases. Other than that? Not a dang thing! Love the way the bookcases go to the ceiling, the lights, the chairs and that fireplace is to die for! Gorgeous! Love it! Thanks so much for sharing and know that I am keeping good thoughts for you and your baby! Hope all is well with you.
I think that painting is very unique and perfect for that room. Like the space a lot.
Please share the name of the painting above the fireplace and the artist. it looks like a Naturalist painting and I adore it!
