Have you ever looked at home decorating magazine or watched a design show on HGTV and wished you could make your own rooms look that good? Design is not always about expertise or even an unlimited budget, but more about taking inspiration and making it work for your own space. That is the philosophy behind Ditto DIY!
*{for those of you who are new to Fieldstone Hill Design, “ditto” is a post series where I dissect gorgeous rooms so that you can bring elements of these spaces into your own homes.}
Once a month, beginning in May, nine very different bloggers will attempt to recreate in their own homes a project or design element inspired by a haute couture design selected by yours truly!
The participating bloggers include:
Ruth @ Living Well Spending Less
Cindy @ Skip to My Lou
Jen @ Balancing Beauty & Bedlam
Edie @ Life in Grace
Rachel @ Surviving the Stores
Karin @ Trophy Mom Diaries
Lauren @ I am THAT Lady
Kelly @ View Along The Way
Melissa @ The Inspired Room
Be sure to pop over to each of these fabulous ladies’ sites today to find out more about their personal style, as well as to discover their own decorating strengths & weaknesses! {And be thinking, if you were to describe your own personal style, how would you?}
So here’s what happens next:
Monday, May 6th, all nine of the other participating bloggers will share their inspired DiY projects, while I will provide expert design tips on incorporating the featured design element into your own space. I will then also present our inspiration photograph for the following month. The truly fun part will be seeing what different interpretations of the same photograph this incredibly eclectic group comes up with!
After you’ve had a month to see what Ditto DIY is all about,
we will be inviting you ALL to participate!
Beginning in the first Monday in June (and every first Monday of the month after that), all you with blogs will be able to link up. (Non-bloggers can share your pictures on our Ditto DIY Facebook Page!)
Be sure to tune in Monday, May 6th to check out our first Ditto DIY projects. And now, without further ado, here is this month’s inspiration:
{ditto} DIY
This month’s Inspiration, selected by our interior designer:
A chic painted tray and vanity vignette, from the home of nina bergsten, photography by marcus lawett.
The {ditto} DIY Challenge:
Create your own painted tray and vanity vignette.
Designer Thoughts:
“Study the image above, and be inspired by the sophistication and simplicity of this design. The attention to each detail adds up to a beautiful vignette. “

What a fun and exciting idea! I can’t wait to see all the creativity that comes out of this! I love this whole concept and then you throw in at the end that this will be interactive with other bloggers too starting in June? That’s so great! I’m looking forward to following along and seeing everyone’s thoughts and ideas. I follow some of these blogs already and look forward to visiting the other ones too. Sharon
yay!! and you can share it on your blog {hope you will!!}, or even on our facebook page. Thanks for the excitement. It really helps to add touches of beauty to our homes … as a group! Kinda like an accountability group for all those Pins that go unattempted!
I love this idea! I will definitely be following and I may even attempt my own ditto projects in June. Who knows?!
Oh, I would LOVE it if you would!!
Yay! I’m so excited to see this challenge happen, and I can’t WAIT to see what everyone links up when we open it up to all!
me too! I really think that is going to be the best part. I may even be persuaded to do a DIY…. can you believe it???
SO thankful to have you as a part of this Kelly!
I am excited about this Darlene! Maybe this will help me too! Of course, I LOVE the first inspiration picture…completely my style:)
Brilliant idea, Dar!!! I think the first Mondays through the rest of the year will be my favoritest day of the month.
Oh, I love this idea!! It’s so easy for us non-diy’ers or designers to just look hopelessly at pretty pictures and never take on adding some of it to our own home. That being said, I would love to try the project and link up, too. It will be a huge jump and challenge, but the fun factor pushed me over the edge. = ) Cannot wait to see what all of these ladies come up with! Thanks as always for such wonderful inspiration.
The plan is to keep these projects SIMPLE, yet GLAM!!! I do HOPE you join in!!!!! Thanks, christie!
Super excited for this Darlene!!!! Can’t wait!!
Blessings!!
Kayla

I always dream of my room to be like those in the home design magazines.
I do agree with you that it’s not entirely about expertise, budget but also it’s about the inspiration and how we make it work for our own space.
