ditto :: breathtaking {the nyc apt. of nina garcia}

This apartment is so absolutely breathtaking that I actually cannot think of enough gorgeous amazing-ness words to describe it.

I first saw the dining room on Pinterest, and when I hopped over to the Architectural Digest article on Nina Garcia’s apartment, I just about passed out. For realsie. Each room, more gorgeous than the last. My jaw hit the floor. I LOVE these spaces. And, I don’t throw my capital L.O.V.E.’s out there very often.

So forget about a single room ditto. Today, I am showing you this entire apartment. Because it is THAT good. And once again, before you dive in, consider these design concepts that I believe make his spaces SOOOOO ditto-worthy. {and don’t forget to think about what YOU would ditto from these spaces! Let me know in the comments.}

This breathtaking home is ditto-worthy because:

  1. the contrasting mix of soft cool tones and pale warm tones.
  2. the airy feel of leggy, gentle furnishings
  3. fresh greenery and flowers, of course.
  4. art! big, glorious art.
  5. clean lines that are absolutely elegant.
  6. clean surfaces are minimalistic, but the layering of fabric is copious. I love that!
  7. ceiling to floor drapes!
  8. the balance of each space is superb. Each room is pleasantly full, but full of air and breath. The spaces are peaceful.

Breathtaking, no?

  • what I would ditto — the big art for sure. where are the sources for such impressive art, affordable sources? It feels to me like these spaces would not be the same on a different budget. It is difficult to ditto this kind of elegance, except through time and patience,slow decorating and creative sleuthing.

    • Yes, it is true! But I am encouraged that this elegance CAN be ditto-ed…. but as you said, it takes
      ” time and patience,slow decorating and creative sleuthing.”

      As for art, either you must
      1. paint it yourself,
      2. let a small child go wild with your favorite colors on a large canvas
      3. Commission art from a ‘starving’ artist friend or college student
      4. Creatively use other things… I plan on framing a shawl that has been in our family.

      Maybe it is time to buy some oil paints?????

    • A good place to look is at a university. The art department will have an exhibition at least once a year and frequently make art available for purchase, cheap! Even if it isn’t for sale, you can connect with young artists that way, and hire one to paint you something. They will often be willing to stretch their own canvases so you can pick the size you want, too. Bonus!

  • Sorry, I have to disagree. It looks to me like a very plain boring apartment, not unlike my grandparents home from the 1950’s. Clean, elegant, but I don’t find anything in these photos I would call inspirational.
