It’s “A Room I Love” Day….just a simple hello, from me to you, featuring a Room that I Love, and a quick list of why I love it:
I came across this photo on Pinterest yesterday, and I wanted to share it with you to get your thoughts.
This room features a sofa that is placed directly in front of a wall of bookshelves. Personally, I thought this was genius. So often, we are limited on where we can place furnishings based on how many full walls are available. What to do if there is only one big wall for a storage piece, and there is not enough room to have a sofa that sits in the middle of the room?
Why not layer?

WHAT I LOVE:
- the concept of placing a sectional sofa directly in front of a large wall unit. Brilliant and lovely.
- the height and beauty of “en masse” globes lift the eye and add fun color.
- the fact that the shelves are highly organized with additional storage concealers.
- the color coding of the books makes art out of regular house hold items.
- charcoal and orange.
- that light invites a place to read.
- the L shape of the sectional is echoed in the shelving
- the rug reminds me of the books on the shelves

The very first thing that caught my eye was that the legs of the ottoman do not match the legs of the couch – that stuck out like a sore thumb…love everything else, especially the display of books
I know, those books are awesome, no!???
I love the room you featured. The lines of the books running in the same direction and the repeated round shapes of the globes make it look very neat and tailored.
this same space could look SO messy if attention was not paid to the details like you mentioned!
I need to do this in my living room. Ikea, here we come! And those globes – oh-me-oh-my….love.

I love everything about this room! I am enamored with the concept of the couch in front of the bookshelf idea – this is the perfect solution if you want floor to ceiling built-ins but don’t have a large room. I also love that it’s a light, bright feeling despite the dark charcoal couch. The pops of color are magnificent. Thanks for sharing!

I love that they have trained the white cat to lay on the beige throw instead of on the black couch! lol
they probably had to tape him there for the photo shoot.
You’re right: it IS gutsy, and it really works! Of course, in my house there would be a dog (or two) on the sofa instead of a cat. . .
you know in real life that white cat would have plunked right on the middle of the charcoal sofa….
Hubby and I were just having a talk last night about doing a wall of bookshelves in our bedroom and putting our chairs in front of it. The bottom half of ours would be closed in behind doors and only the top opened for pretty storage. Nice to see something similar for a visual. I have also thought of doing shelves where the books face out behind our sofa in our homeschool room, for a library feel. But I may like books a little too much, ha.
Sigh. The room is really pretty, but I want that KITTY!
Wow I really like that! I would never have thought of it but it looks really great. I like how it creates a sort of corner that looks great for lounging. And you can hide not so good looking stuff on the shelves that are hidden behind the couch. Pretty brilliant! cute cat too.
I love everything about this room! What a cozy place to relax with a book. And, that grouping of globes makes me want to start my own collection.
I love this idea. I would try it here but I’m not sure how it will go. Our living and dining room are all one room. I will have to work on that.

I’m loving this room! The beautifully styled bookshelves are a great backdrop for this sectional. Why not? To me, it’s like a lovely art piece that complements the seating area. It’s so well done & organized. Very warm & appealing!
This is something we may need to do in our spare room we have lots of books. I already have a chair in front of my bookshelves in my room.
I like how the pillow with the circles and the striped rug coordinate. And, how the globes up top are also reflected in that same pillow.
I really like everything about this room. Everything flows together nicely.

Shelves look like one of our favorites….the expedit from ikea. Just bought a huge one to house my son’s lego collection. Pinterest has been great inspiration for using the expedit. Must have missed this one.
How do you get to the books and storage boxes behind or at the end of the couch without rearranging the room? How do you find a book on the self without reading every single title? This arrangement LOOKS good, but it’s not very practical.
I do love the charcoal couch and the globe collection.
