I have news that may be displeasing to those who remember late 80’s bridesmaid dresses with disdain:
Mauve is back!
However, today’s Ditto may win you over. Mauve has a marvelous side, no?
{As always, I look forward to hearing from you and finding out what you would ditto, too. So, be thinking!}

DITTO :: {WHAT I WOULD STEAL FROM THIS SPACE}:
1. MAUVE.
It is the warmer pink side of lavender, and it plays nicely with warm and cool tones. This mauve stays classy in small doses: the smashingly beautiful curtains, the art, the dining chairs, and the ‘en masse’ roses. This picture, and this picture, have started my mauve-wheels a-turning.
2. A HUGE ANTIQUE RUG.
Someday, I hope to Ditto this in my own home. I truly love the look of a good quality, antique rug that fills the room. The pile is always worn-low but comfortable, the pattern is intricate, the colors are flexible. This particular rug, which pulls in warm tones and cool tones, is a stunner in my book.
3. SIMPLE, MODERN FURNISHINGS THAT ARE STILL COMFORTABLE.
Some modern pieces have lines that are so stark, they don’t invite you to stay. That is not the case with the clean-lined chairs that encircle this table. They are very streamlined, but still inviting. And the table, which also have very modern lines, appears comfortable and perfect for a long gathering with friends.
4. MOLDINGS TO DIE FOR.
What is there to say about the stunning moldings in this Paris apartment? If any of us could ditto them, you’d better believe we would!
5. THE CONTRAST OF HARD VS SOFT.
Soft curtains. Hard marble. Soft rug. Hard edged table. Soft chair cushions. Hard lacquer chair. Soft white walls. Hard black floors. Hard touches vs. soft touches: this adds so much interest to the space! Contrast that I can love. Of course, ditto.
6. A FIREPLACE OF TREMENDOUS BEAUTY.
This fireplace is an architectural beauty of solid marble and bold proportions. Please let me know if you are planning to ditto this baby!!!
7. THAT FLOOR.
Please, oh, please don’t miss checking out that amazing, ebony chevron floor. Ditto!!!!!!
8. GLAM TOUCHES.
I love some wonderful high-gloss glamour, I tell ya. The glam touches in this Paris apartment are not shy: A breathtaking crystal chandelier, gilded mirrors spread throughout, decadent roses, that marble fireplace {!!!!!}, ceiling-to-floor silk drapes, and the overall grand scale of the space. Can you just imagine walking into this room to eat your dinner? The glam life is for me. Ditto, I say!
* * * * * * *
SO much goodness.
Love anything I did not mention? or…
WHAT WOULD YOU DITTO {STEAL} FROM THIS SPACE, 1-8? SOMETHING ELSE?
I LOVE HEARING YOUR THOUGHTS!

I saw that you pinned this image recently and was hoping it would be a “ditto” soon! I LOVE the rug!! And all the other stuff, but I can hardly concentrate on anything else because I love the rug so much! I must say that mauve on a come-back surprises me. I recently painted a room pink and was so concerned when I thought it was looking mauve (80’s!!) when it dried (it isn’t – definitely peach undertones not lavender), but I guess that wouldn’t have been all bad. Although I think it’s better in the smaller bits here (chairs and drapes and print) than it would be on all the walls.
I am with you! I could not handle it all over my walls. I made peace with mauve… but I don’t want to bathe in it!!
I love mauve lipstick. Period. We were mauved to death, back when. I haven’t recovered. But, my dear friend will be thrilled when I share this with her.
On my way to do that now!!!
mauved to death. haha!
Your ditto posts are great…every one. I love this room and the rug. The mauve – not so much. Although I have to admit it reads soft and more pink here. The purple mauve of the 80s was and is still pretty awful…and that is coming from someone who LOVES color.
Thank you SO much, Beth!!!
Favorite detail here — the black console with gold trim. LOVE! But the mauve, not so much, though I can see it in a friend’s home and she might consider adding a modern edge. I would buy the fingernail polish in mauve for sure!
I don’t know that I would pick it for myself, but that is why I had to ditto this room… the gorgeousness of it took my breath away and made me consider: “maybe mauve????”
I burned out on mauve in the 1980’s, but this is so soft and subtle and beautiful. With just a hint of a blush, this makes me like it again. I love the rug.
you are right karina. the blush-ness of this mauve makes it palatable
Didn’t think I was a mauve fan but hey you just made me one! The rug is what makes it all work for me! Love the rug! I could take this for my own!
Hi Lisa!!!!!!!!!! I am surprised as the next guy… suddenly, mauve in shiny doses is making me happy.
The rug has pretty colors and I like how it’s a little worn and comfortable. My six year old is here and she likes it and the curtains.
your 6 yr old has good taste!
I remember my mother in law totally being in love with mauve…not my favorite, but in small doses and I feel that the mauve shade now is a nicer hue….I would definitely ditto the trim work and the chandelier!…
yes, it does seem to be nicer, with softer lavender and blush undertones!
