I am so in love with this living room by Katie Ridder. In fact, I am crushing on her design skills in general. And in this space there is so much to ditto! Especially the colors.
I can’t wait to hear what YOU would ditto from this amazing space.
{design by Katie Ridder}
DITTO :: {WHAT I WOULD STEAL FROM THIS SPACE}:
1. PALE COOLS WITH VIBRANT WARMS.
Once again, one of my favorite design techniques: Contrast. I will forever love skillfully executed contrast in a space. And, my oh my, Katie Ridder has this down to an art. The pale cools of a lovely lavender and soft turquoise {in the art} are offset by the bold warmth of a scarlet orange. How gorgeous. Ditto!
2. STRONG BLOCKS OF CREAM TO ADD NEUTRALITY.
This room has a lot of bold strokes and gutsy choices. In my opinion, they do not overwhelm, because Katie adds perfect balance by offering strong blocks of the same cream color around the space: the lamps and lampshades, the side upholstered chairs, the art frame. These blocks of cream give the eye a place to rest, and they also allow the eye to travel around the space easily.
3. TEXTURE UPON TEXTURE UPON TEXTURE.
Visual and actual texture abound, adding such richness. I see texture in: the pillows, the sofa, the inlaid Indian tables, the stunning orange chair, and the rich rug. I love how Katie does not shy away from textures. She just keeps layering it on, adding depth {and eye-candy}.
4. LAVENDER.
I can’t believe I am saying this. You see, I am not a purple fan. Oh, if you love purple, that is awesome. Love what you love, and love it well! But as for me, I don’t. But something about this lavender is growing on me…. Ditto maybe?
5. TWO AMAZING TABLES, PAIRED UP TO CREATE A COFFEE TABLE.
This is a fantastic design trick for creating a unique and useful coffee table. Not to mention, I think sourcing coffee tables can be so hard. The choices can be dull. But this option opens up a whole other world of coffee table possibilities!
6. A HUGE PIECE OF ART ON AN OTHERWISE CALM WALL.
This art does not have to compete with much in the room. And I am so glad. I love when art is allowed to breathe, and it can do its “thang:” Draw some lookers, Be lovely and Be inspiring to look at.
7. AN ANTIQUE RUG THAT IS NOT MATCHY MATCHY.
Notice how this rug really does not match anything in this room? Not exactly, anyway. This rug has an overall neutral feel, with mocha tones. And it also has some pale turquoise that connects to the artwork. So don’t worry about matchy matchy. Rather, think in terms of color harmony, and just make sure you love the rug!
8. THAT ORANGE CHAIR.
I love you. Come to momma. Ditto.
* * * * * * *
SO much goodness.
Love anything I did not mention? or…
WHAT WOULD YOU DITTO {STEAL} FROM THIS SPACE, 1-8? SOMETHING ELSE?
I LOVE HEARING YOUR THOUGHTS!
* * * * * * *
I would ditto the sofa, the pair of coffee tables, the oushak-style rug, and the size and scale of the art work over the sofa.
Darlene I am loving lavender as well lately. In fact my master bath will be painted that shade later this week.
PS I hope you will Come and enter my amazing Cross Bottle Guy Giveaway!

Ditto to the artwork, the 2 tables and the rug that’s not matchy matchy (I use that phrase, too!)and I would add the detail of the contrasting orange piping on those cream chairs – I love contrasting piping 🙂
I would definitely ditto the art. I’m watching for a sale on canvases so I can paint something big for my living room wall above the couch.
And I love the colorful chair. One colorful chair seems so bold, much more brazen than a colorful pillow or piece of artwork. I like the daring nature of it!
